Select Translate — Privacy policy

How the browser extension handles selected text and preferences.

Data used for translation

On websites you allow, the extension watches for text selection to open a local popup automatically. It also supports its icon, keyboard shortcut and selection context menu. Editable fields are excluded from automatic popups. You can edit the text in the popup. Selecting text or changing the source text or languages automatically sends that text and the source and target language codes to MyMemory over HTTPS. The provider also receives network information such as your IP address. The extension does not send the full page, browsing history or cookies.

Language detection and storage

Automatic source-language detection uses Chrome’s local language detection API. Your target-language preference is stored locally using Chrome extension storage. Selected text and translations are not saved by the extension and are not sent to 3omar.hs servers. Uninstalling the extension removes its local settings.

Read aloud

Read-aloud buttons use browser/device speech synthesis. Voice availability and whether speech is processed locally or by a network voice depend on your browser and operating system.

Third-party provider

MyMemory processes translation requests under its own policies and usage limits. Do not submit confidential information. See MyMemory privacy information.

Permissions and purpose

activeTab and scripting display the translation popup on the page you invoke it on. contextMenus provides the selection menu. storage remembers the target language. HTTP/HTTPS website access enables automatic selection popups across sites you allow. Network translation requests go only to api.mymemory.translated.net. No remotely hosted executable code, advertising or tracking is included in the extension.
