Translation beside your text

Automatic translation in a popup beside your selected text, with language selection, swap, copy and retry. Select two or more characters, including a single word. Read the original or translation aloud using device voices. Click outside it or press Escape to close. The whole page is never sent.

Manual-install package; not a Chrome Web Store listing. Allow access on all sites to open the popup automatically when selecting page text. After updating, reload the extension and refresh your tabs.

Install in a minute

  1. Download the ZIP and extract it to a permanent folder.
  2. Open chrome://extensions or edge://extensions and enable Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked and select the folder containing manifest.json.
  4. Allow access on all sites, then select two or more characters on a regular webpage to translate automatically. The selection context menu and extension icon are also available.

Privacy and limits

Selecting text sends it automatically to MyMemory for translation. Long selections are split into smaller requests automatically; progress is shown in the popup. Free-provider quotas may apply. The extension saves language preferences only, not text or translation history.

Source language is detected locally when you translate; you can override it. The target defaults to your browser language and remembers your choice. The list includes over 180 language choices; provider coverage varies and does not include every language in the world. Embedded website frames are supported. Browser settings, other extensions’ pages, extension stores and some PDF viewers cannot run this extension.
